About Pastor Herb
​
Pastor Herb Wounded Head III was born on the Oglala Lakota Reservation and grew up in Gayville, SD. He is a 1993 graduate of Augustana College/University in Sioux Falls, receiving his B.A in Biology, with an emphasis in Marine Science.
​
From 1992-1995; 1998, he worked at Atlantic Mountain Ranch of Lutherans Outdoors in South Dakota as a counselor and Wagon Master of the Wagon Train program. During that time, he also worked at the Black Hills Children’s Home as a Child Care Counselor from 1995-1999 before entering seminary.
​
He attended Luther Seminary at St. Paul, MN, graduating from seminary in 2004. He started his pastoral ministry at Toronto Lutheran Parish in Toronto, SD in 2004. In 2008, he served Ascension Lutheran Church in Brookings as the Associate Pastor until 2014. From there, he became the Campus Pastor at the University Lutheran Center in Brookings, serving the South Dakota State University Campus. Pastor Herb most recently served as interim Pastor at Grace Lutheran in Sisseton, SD before being called in 2022 to Colton Lutheran Parish.

Herb is married to Lorna, his wife of 30 years. Lorna is a Field Specialist in Family Resource Management with South Dakota State Extension. Together they have one son, Gabriel, who is a graduate of California Lutheran University in Film and Television Production. Also in their family is a Cowboy Corgi named Django.
Pastor Herb enjoys playing golf, guitar, CrossFit, watching movies and is a fan of the 6-time Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers and Chicago Cubs.
